Is Uncloud built on Nextcloud?
No. Uncloud is its own app. It uses Syncthing to keep laptops in sync and Tailscale, a free service, for its secure connection from anywhere.
Which is easier to set up?
On a Mac, Uncloud sets up in five minutes or less: open the app, choose Make this Mac the Uncloud host, make your account and pick a folder. Nextcloud is usually installed on a server with Docker, or with a web server, PHP and a database.
Do I need a domain name or open ports?
Not with Uncloud. Turn on remote access and Uncloud gives you a secure https:// address that works at home and away, on any device.
When is Nextcloud the better fit?
