Privacy Policy
Effective October 5, 2026
The short version: Uncloud keeps your files on computers you own. We don’t run servers that store your files, and we can’t see them. The Uncloud apps don’t send us analytics or usage data. Our website uses Google Analytics, and if you join early access, we keep your email address so we can tell you when Uncloud is ready. We don’t sell your personal information.
Who we are
Uncloud is made by Ethan Teng Consulting LLC (“we,” “us”). This policy explains what information we collect through the uncloud.life website (“the site”) and the Uncloud apps (the host app that turns a computer into your household’s cloud, and the desktop app that syncs your other computers with it), how we use it, and the choices you have.
The Uncloud apps
Your files stay with you
Uncloud stores your files on the computer you choose as your host and on drives connected to it. Computers you pair keep a synced copy. We don’t operate servers that store, receive or index your files, and we have no way to access them.
Accounts
The household accounts you create in Uncloud (usernames, display names and passwords) are stored only on your host computer. Passwords are stored as salted hashes, not in readable form. Uncloud doesn’t ask for email addresses for these accounts. The app keeps you signed in with a cookie on your host computer; it isn’t sent to us.
No analytics or tracking
The Uncloud apps don’t send us analytics, crash reports or usage data. Their logs stay on your computer, and we only see them if you choose to send them to us.
Services you choose to connect
Some features rely on other companies’ services. You choose whether to use them, and those companies’ own terms and privacy policies apply.
- Remote access through Tailscale. You sign in to your own Tailscale account. Connections are encrypted all the way to your host computer, so Tailscale’s servers can’t read your files.
- Remote access through Cloudflare Tunnel. If you choose Cloudflare instead, encryption ends at Cloudflare’s servers, so your traffic, including your files, passes through them in readable form on its way to your computer.
- Syncing your other computers. Uncloud uses Syncthing to keep your computers in sync. Syncthing’s public discovery and relay servers help your devices find and reach each other, so they see your devices’ IDs and IP addresses. Files sent through a relay stay encrypted. Uncloud turns off Syncthing’s usage reporting.
- Importing from Dropbox. When you connect Dropbox, you sign in with Dropbox and give Uncloud read-only access. Your files download directly from Dropbox to your host computer, and the access token is encrypted and kept there. With Uncloud’s own Dropbox connection, Dropbox returns you through a page on uncloud.life, which passes a one-time sign-in code to your computer without storing it. The code can appear in our hosting provider’s request logs, but it can’t be used without a secret that never leaves your computer.
- Google Drive, OneDrive and iCloud. Uncloud copies files from the folders these services’ own apps keep on your computer. Nothing from these services passes through us.
- Downloading Uncloud. Uncloud is downloaded from GitHub, under GitHub’s privacy policy.
Our website
Information you give us
- Early access. When you join early access, our waitlist provider, LaunchList, collects your email address, along with the campaign details in the page’s address (such as UTM tags and ad click IDs) that show how you found us. We use your email to tell you when Uncloud is ready and about your founding price, your free trial and the early-access program.
- Partner inquiries. The form on our partners page sends us your name, email address, company, interests and message by email, through our email delivery provider, Mailtrap. We use them to reply and to follow up about working together.
- Email. If you write to us, we keep your message and address so we can reply.
Information collected automatically
- Analytics. We use Google Analytics, loaded through Google Tag Manager, to understand how people use the site: the pages you view, scrolling, clicks on links and buttons, the site or ad that referred you, and your browser, device and approximate location. Google Analytics uses cookies and similar technologies to do this. We’ve turned off Google signals and ad personalization, and we don’t send your email address to Google Analytics.
- Advertising measurement. We advertise with Google Ads and measure whether ad visits lead to early-access signups, using Google Analytics and the click ID Google adds to ad links. We don’t use remarketing to target ads to you.
- Videos. Our videos are embedded from YouTube in its privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com) and may load as soon as you open a page. YouTube may collect information about your device and viewing under Google’s privacy policy.
- Hosting. Vercel hosts the site and processes standard request information, such as your IP address, browser type and the pages you request, to deliver and secure it.
Affiliate links
Drive links on our storage page go through Impact, an affiliate network, to OWC’s store. If you click one, Impact and OWC may use cookies to credit us for a purchase, and we may earn a commission. They handle that information under their own privacy policies. We see reports of clicks and sales for each recommendation.
How we use information
- To run, maintain and improve the site and Uncloud.
- To send early-access updates and reply to messages.
- To understand which pages, campaigns and ads are working.
- To protect the site and the people who use it, and to comply with the law.
How we share information
We don’t sell your personal information. We share it only:
- With the service providers named in this policy, which handle it on our behalf: LaunchList, Google (Analytics, Tag Manager and Ads), Mailtrap, Vercel, and the provider that hosts our email.
- When the law requires it, or to protect our rights, the people who use the site, or the public.
- As part of a merger, acquisition or sale of our business, in which case this policy continues to apply to it.
Cookies
Our site uses cookies for Google Analytics and Google Ads measurement. Embedded services, such as the YouTube player and the LaunchList signup form, may set their own. You can block or delete cookies in your browser’s settings, or opt out of Google Analytics with Google’s opt-out browser add-on. Our site doesn’t change its behavior in response to “Do Not Track” browser signals.
How long we keep information
We keep early-access email addresses for as long as the early-access program runs and we need them to honor your founding price, or until you ask us to remove yours. We keep partner inquiries and emails for as long as we need them to correspond with you and keep business records. Google Analytics data is kept for the retention period set in our Google Analytics account, after which Google deletes it.
Your choices and rights
- You can stop early-access emails at any time by writing to us, or with the unsubscribe link when an email includes one.
- You can ask to see, correct or delete the personal information we hold about you by emailing hello@uncloud.life. We’ll confirm the request came from you and respond within the time the law requires.
- Depending on where you live, including California and the European Union, you may have further rights under local law, such as to know what we collect about you or to object to certain uses. We won’t treat you differently for using them.
Visitors outside the United States
We’re based in the United States, and the information described here is processed there.
Children
Our site isn’t directed to children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we’ll delete it. Accounts a family creates in Uncloud, including children’s accounts, stay on the family’s own computer; we don’t receive them.
Security
We use reasonable measures to protect the information we hold. In Uncloud, passwords are stored as salted hashes and connection tokens are encrypted on your host computer. Keeping your host computer, its accounts and your remote-access settings secure is up to you, and no way of sending or storing information is completely secure.
Changes to this policy
We’ll post any changes on this page and update the effective date. If a change materially affects how we handle your information, we’ll give notice on the site or by email before it takes effect.
